Project Shawls

Tashi Dalek,
After attending the HHDL teachings this September in Dharamsala, our hearts were touched when we visited the Tibetan Children Village, a few of us felt that we did not actually achieve what we wanted to do for the children. Even though during the teachings, awareness was made, fund was raised, items was received through the donation. However, we realized other TCVs that are further away from Dharamsala needed help more due to the fact that the location are not easily accessible and nearby there is no popular tourist attractions.
One of them is TCV Suja, after hearing stories about the state of the school and children; we decided to pool together our efforts with a few like-minded friends to help TCV Suja in getting some winter shawls for the children. They are a total of 1,600 children in the village. About half of them have no relatives, family nor friends in India and some of them are orphans. Therefore, we decided to take things into our own hands and raise fund purchasing shawls for the children to get through the winter. Shawls are easier in the sense that they are unisex and do not need sizes as opposed to jackets and overcoats.
We have managed to procure the shawls in India with the help of our local friends and the cost adds up to approximately S$1.60 per shawl with tax and transportation included. The targeted date for the shawls to be delivered to the school will be around 15th Dec as the temperature now has already dropped to 16 degrees Celsius. By then, those kids whom have no one to bring them home for holiday, home stay or attend any kind of courses will be left in the village. I have spoken to the sponsorship secretary and she estimated there will be around 40-50% of the total student population. Their age will range from 7 to 20 years old.

The money we’re trying to raise is S$6000 and additional amount raised will go back to TCV Suja for musical instruments or books. We will arrange for a representative to go to the school and distribute the shawls to the children and we hope to show you some photos after the event.

This is solely an effort of a group of like minded Buddhists in helping the world to become a better place. I hope you can join us in helping a child to stay warm this winter.
Do help us to spread the words around as we intend to hit our target no matter what. Thanks a million in advance for reading this message.
May you have many opportunties to accumulate good merits,
Varada Effort

Make a donation

Since we mentioned we are not a registered group, this could likely be a scam. However, we insist the people whom have making donations so far are from our friends, relatives, colleagues and many others.

You have to know us for who we are, so email us your contact details to varada.effort@gmail.com.

We welcome you to join us in this fund raising event. Lastly, if you're interested, we can also make arrangement for you to visit the organization we've supported.
