Workskill Workshop for VTC in Jan 2013

Our two dear friends; Ms. Felicia Teo and Mr. Lim Siauw Chong have generously offered their time and skill to go all the way to Selakui, India, in near zero degree temperature early January this year to give a four-day workshop to the students in VTC.  Both are highly qualified trainers which we think will provide the expertise needed to this fact finding cum training trip for us.
Much anticipation and expectation from both sides was experienced prior to the trip. All these time we have heard of the problems the students are facing but we need to establish that our thinking was on the correct track. Therefore it is necessary for some expert in this field to go and see for themselves if our guesses in the past were correct.
The students from VTC are there in this vocational training school to prepare themselves to work in hotels, restaurants, spas, beauty salons, and offices after their close to two years training. The other departments like auto mechanic etc. were not included in this round of workshop as the more imminent task is to improve the communication skills of the students related to service industy and build up their self confidence in facing their future employers. On top of that, the trainers were also using their limited free time for this trip. Therefore it was quite intense training for those who were selected. After the four days, when time to leave, the students have shown much motivation and confidence in their manner of speaking English and greeting people. They were also taught how to write a resume for job applications and handling job interviews.

Much discussions have taken place after the trainers' return and we are confident that the next time we send other trainers over, our job will be much easier as we know what to focus on by following up the recommendations of our two trainers. Therefore those four days, though short, will not be the end but the start of another journey for us all. Hopefully we can contribute more to VTC to help the weaker students in the future.
Varada Effort would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our two trainers who paid their own way and spent their valueable time to train the students there. Their effort is highly appreciated by all here and over in India. We hope that we will be able to continue with their effort and tap on their expertise in the future.
